Yes Skyrim fans, that is the conclusion I have extracted from some comments from Todd Howered. Bethesda are going back to the unique novelty of Morrowind! Yes they’re retreating from the medieval feel of oblivion back into REAL fantasy! Anyway the comments tell of what they are aiming for with Skyrim. I’ve posted the comments below!
“It should feel alien, kind of ‘stranger in a strange’ land, with familiar looking elements only rooting you early in the game. The whole tone ends up being one of ‘I’m an outsider, I’m uncomfortable‘” reflected Howard.
He went on to explain that since Oblivion presented a world more grounded in reality, the charm of discovery that made Morrowind so popular was sacrificed to a certain extent.
“With Oblivion, we’re dealing with the capital province, and we wanted to get back to the more classic Arena and Daggerfall feel of a fantasy world that felt more refined and welcoming…a place that you instantly understood.
“But in that, we sacrificed some of what made Morrowind special; the wonder of discovery” he admitted.
Looking forward, Howard said Bethesda’s next Elder Scrolls title, Skyrim, will feature a mixture of both and will “walk the line between Morrowind and Oblivion“.
So there we have it, it won’t be quite as tame as Oblivion but not as wild as Morrowind. The perfect Skyrim balance perhaps?
What do you think Skyrim will be like? Weird? Comment below!
